About S. T. A. B.

The origins of S. T. A. B. and reasons for creating the system.

Chief Instructor and Co - Founder of C. O. D. A. Peter Robins was a great believer in the importance of employing realistic, no - nonsense methods of dealing with an edged weapon attack.
Having been threatened, and violently attacked himself on more than one occasion (as a civilian and Police Officer) as well as witnessing first hand an horrendous mass attack and a serious incident involving a friend, he was under no illusion as to the extreme damage edged weapons can do. Additionally, his own experiences showed clearly that much of the edged weapons defences being taught in most martial arts systems were poorly drilled, and often dangerously ineffective.

The original STAB System was devised in a fairly short period of time, but has continued to evolve and expand over the course of more than ten years. This evolution has taken effect without incorporating complicated techniques, thus maintaining the true ethos that encompasses much of C. O. D. A. s training. As a reminder of this, C. O. D. A. have the philosophy of the 4 E’s (in general training) to which are added the 3 E’s of STAB
(For an explanation, please see the section on the E’s ).

During the formation of the system, in addition to martial arts and practical experience, C. O. D. A. was fortunate to be able to call for advice and critique from both its Patriarch Bill Pilkington and Technical Advisor Les Martin, both WW2 veteran instructors under Fairbairn and Sykes.
Further input was received from the late Colonel Rex Applegate and various UK Police Officers (trainers and specialist officers) and overseas Law Enforcement material and statistics. Feedback from actual situations where
STAB principles and techniques have been used has also been received.

STAB has been taught to C. O. D. A. Members since the early 1990‘s and to several UK Police Constabularies. Aspects have also been taught on BCA Instructors’ courses. STAB is not taught in full to members of the public, and no videos or dvd’s are available. The only official dvd is the BCA Peter Robins Masterclass which touches briefly on the training. Any other versions of this course are illegal copies. Reproduction or resale of unauthorised
STAB material, written or in other format will result in prosecution.
